Policy Council

Denise Louie Education Center utilizes a system of “Shared Governance” in which the Denise Louie Board of Directors, the Denise Louie Policy Council and the DLEC staff share the responsibility of leading the agency. Policy Council is mainly composed of community representatives and parents to serve as a link to other parents at center meetings, trainings, Board of Directions, and the community at DLEC.

Policy Council meetings occur monthly, elections are in October, and positions can be filled if there are vacancies throughout the year. Training to the Policy Council is done at every meeting based on the topics that are relevant to the discussion, and may include:  bylaws, Robert’s Rules of Order, the budget, hiring process, or advocacy. 

Because of the diversity in our program, the Policy Council is conducted in Chinese, Vietnamese, English, and Spanish simultaneously.  We will add additional languages for any members of the policy council that need translation and interpretation.  Materials are translated and mailed one week before the meetings and skilled outside translators are brought in under contract to provide translation.
