Donate Top ten reasons to donate to Denise Louie Education Center: 10. You want to earn more than 2% on your investment. For every dollar invested in high quality early learning programs like DLEC, the return on investment is paid back to society seven fold in the form of reduced crime rates, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, job training costs, special education costs and grade repetition. High quality early learning increases success in school, graduation rates, workforce readiness, job productivity and community engagement. 9. Because you believe a quality education is a right, not a privilege. The achievement gap starts before school. Over half of Washington’s kindergarteners are not prepared for school. Children from low income families are 1-2 years more behind in language than their higher income peers. If we can help these children be prepared for kindergarten, teachers will be able to spend less time catching unprepared children up and more time helping all children excel. 8. Because we only have so much time before our brains slow down. Early learning experiences hard-wire the brain for future learning, especially in the first few years. Infant’s brains are twice as active as adults. 7. Because ignorance is not bliss. Parents are teachers and they need our help. Parents know the early years matter, but many don’t know exactly what to do to promote early learning. 6. You can be like a Nobel Laureate. You will be joining a distinguished list of philanthropists, business leaders, elected officials and community leaders who recognize the importance of investing in early learning. Some distinguished early learning champions include: Governor Gregoire, Bill Gates Sr., James Heckman Nobel Laureate Economist, and Arthur Rolnick Federal Reserve Bank. 5. You believe that language and cultural diversity is a strength. We support both English and the child/family’s home language at Denise Louie, where more than 90% of our children speak a language other than English at home. 4. Because success breeds success. Not to toot our own horn, but this year, DLEC was nominated by Governor Gregoire to be considered as a Head Start Center of Excellence. We also received Early Head Start expansion funding through a highly competitive process. 3. You want to do something to help your community. DLEC serves over 300 people living in South Seattle and Sea-Tac. Your support will go support children and families right in your back yard. 2. You want to feel needed. We are required to generate 20% of our annual Head Start and Early Head Start budget through donations from the community. Every dollar, every volunteer hour, every donation of classroom supplies is counted, recognized and appreciated. 1. You have hope for the future. You believe that with a good start to life, we are teaching our next generation of scientists, CEOs, teachers, accountants, engineers, lawyers and doctors. Thank you for your support of Denise Louie Education Center.
