As many of our families are English language learners (most typically home language is Chinese, Vietnamese, or Spanish), many of the children are first exposed to English at Denise Louie Education Center and our staff promotes bi-lingual, bi-cultural development.
Data Entry / Admin / Light Office Work
The Denise Louie Education Center, a non-profit Head Start program serving Seattle's refugee and immigrant communities, is in need of a volunteer to assist with light office work. Duties would include, but are not limited to: shredding, filing and data entry. Youth volunteers are welcome. The minimum age for this opportunity is 16 years or older.

Special Events Intern
The Denise Louie Education Center is currently looking for a Special Events Intern to assist with all aspects involved in the planning and execution of Jazz Night, our major annual fundraising event. The Special Events Intern will work closely with the Development Director to ensure timely accomplishment of all major milestones and will also assist the Jazz Night Committee with tasks on an as-needed basis.
Communications and Publicity Intern
Denise Louie Education Center is looking for a communications intern to help us re-formulate and more effectively manage our public profile. This includes, but is not limited to, e-newsletters, press releases, special event materials and general communications. Intern will work closely with Development Director to ensure timely and accurate message creation and dissemination.

Denise Louie Education Center is looking for a board member.
As a board member of Denise Louie Education Center, you can apply your professional experience to improving the lives of low income children and families. Our goal is to prepare children for success in school and in life, through pre-school, parent involvement, family support, healthy development, and parent leadership.
Board members provide strategic direction to the organization using information from our community assessment, program data and self assessment. They are responsible for ensuring quality service delivery and the fulfillment of the agency mission.
Board members are also volunteers working at implementation level, especially when there are fundraising events. We would love your help in achieving our goal of continuing to prepare low-income, culturally/linguistically diverse children and families for school and success. This is a leadership level position.
Requirements:
- Attend board meetings (8 of 11 required)
-Participate on at least one board committee (fundraising, board development or planning and service delivery)
-Participate in the board’s annual retreat
-Make a personal financial gift at a leadership level
-Volunteer at least one time per year in the classroom, field trip, parent meeting or other activity involving DLEC children and/or families
-Help solicit other contributions to the organization or assist with a fund raising event/activity
-Participate in the evaluation of the Executive Director Recruit other board members or volunteers
-Speak or represent DLEC at a community event.
